The story of the illegitimate son of a convict woman. Born in Parramatta in 1791, he went to sea at thirteen years of age, destined to become the first Australian born master mariner, a trader, explorer, and entrepreneur.
Moving to Hobart Town in 1814, he continued his whaling and sealing adventures, including an epic circumnavigation of Van Diemen*s Land in 1815/16 at twenty-five years of age in an open thirty-foot, five oared whaling boat.
