This book came about due to my early childhood interest in trams and trolley buses both in Hobart and Launceston. My interest in trams was saddened when the last tram ran on the 20th of August, 1961 in Hobart. The Launceston tram system was opened in 1911 and closed in 1952 thus ending 42 years in that city. In this book I share a few memories and even more photos covering this period in Tasmania. It was a unique era that I was lucky to be involved in. The photos show the many different designs and features in both Hobart and Launceston trams and trolley buses, the routes they travelled on and how they modernised the way the public travelled in the city. I hope this book brings back fond memories of a life that has passed. Back when one saw or heard a tram rattling down a Hobart or Launceston street, or a trolley bus just sneaking along , not making a sound, only the swish of its tyres being heard.
